Contraceptives are becoming more and more common in society these days. After all, as the saying goes, prevention is the best cure. This means that there a lot of different contraceptive brands going around, and one of these brands is called Plan B.
Plan B is well named, as it is a contraceptive intended for you to take after your other contraceptive options, such as birth control pills, have failed or been forgotten. It is really a back-up plan of sorts, and it’s very useful for that reason. It is not to be taken as a regular birth control, however, but rather as a ‘just in case’ thing. You can only take it 3 days at most after the contraceptive failure, otherwise it won’t work.
However, the cost of Plan B does concern and worry many people who need it, and because it is such an urgent matter to get it nearly immediately this can pose a real problem. You cannot put a clear, definitive price on Plan B, however, which is even more of an issue.
The cost of Plan B varies from place to place, but at most general pharmacies it is sold over the counter for $30 to $70, which is quite a range. There is no clear average, either. It is completely random in the pricing, possibly due to prejudices against the treatment that some people hold. You do have to be over 18 to get it over the counter, and if you are younger than that you need to get an official prescription, but even if you get a prescription the price is still very random.
At the Planned Parenthood pharmacy, however, it is possible to get the cost of Plan B lowered. They have a sliding scale for the cost that is based on your income, so if you have little to no income, it is even possible to get it for free. Many people are very grateful that they have such a low cost for Plan B, as they can now get what they need when they need it, regardless of their financial situation. This has meant that a lot of people have been able to use it successfully.
There are some people who don’t like Plan B, however, due to their own personal prejudices against any kind of contraceptive. These people believe that this contraceptive is basically like abortion, but this is definitely not the case. Plan B is simply a preventative. These prejudices have probably made the cost of Plan B go up in some places, mostly general pharmacies, and have put a lot of people in a bad place.
Despite this, Plan B being the effective contraceptive that it is, it has really taken off in popularity. It is not a common household term, but there are definitely a lot of people who know about it, and this is very pleasing to a lot of enthusiasts. Despite the prejudices some people have against it, it is still a great last resort.
